Merlyn (2022), a climate disinformation reporter, has been nominated for Rising Star of the Year in the BBC News awards.

Merlyn has transitioned from mentee to mentor this year, as she takes on the Senior Fellow mantle for our 2023 mentoring scheme for undergraduate journalism students.

On the award nomination she says, “I’m absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted alongside such talented colleagues. I love working with the brilliant Disinformation team at the BBC which does increasingly vital work to combat mis/disinformation and I’m excited to produce more high-impact work this year!”

Another Trust Fellow, Ashni Lakhani (2021), has also been nominated in the same category for her BBC documentary ‘Turkey Teeth: Bargain Smiles or Big Mistake?‘.

The winners will be announced on 8 February in a ceremony at Radio Theatre and online.
