Sophia Smith Galer (2019): winning it, and Losing It

Sophia’s book is intended to be ‘a taboo-busting guide to sex and relationships that debunks the myths you were taught at school’

It’s been quite a year for Sophia so far!

Her first book Losing It: Sex Education for the 21st Century was published in April and immediately received a 5* review in the Telegraph as well as being picked as the Bookseller’s Editor’s Choice for that month. She recently appeared on Radio 4 in this documentary exploring the virtual world of sex education.

Sophia is delighted with the reception of her book, saying, “It’s been a whirlwind spring and summer and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve had messages from everyone from 17 year olds to teachers, parents and people my own age talking about how they’re planning on implementing what they’ve learned from my book in their own lives. I never imagined work like mine having this impact and it still doesn’t feel real.”

As well as Losing It, Sophia has an impressive string of achievements under her belt, including reaching over 400,000 followers on TikTok and being selected for the Forbes 30 under 30 list for 2022.

She’s been involved in breaking a number of exclusive stories, including scoops for VICE World News on a US donor funding anti-abortion talks in British schools; and the UK government only providing half the money it promised for sex education in England.

Congratulations Sophia – and we can’t wait to see what you get up to next!
