2020 mentee Layla Wright and 2021 mentee Inzamam Rashid have been named in Engine MHP + Mischief’s ’30 To Watch’ list.
Layla, a freelance investigative journalist, presenter and documentary maker, and Inzamam, Sky News’ North of England Correspondent, were both named as two of five winners in the ‘news’ category.
Inzamam said:
‘It’s a real honour to be recognised as one of the 30 To Watch journalists, particularly alongside some very talented colleagues.
‘The pandemic has exposed long standing social and racial inequalities in this country, and reporting on this and exposing cover-ups was desperately important for the millions of people impacted disproportionately. It was a privilege to hear and share their stories.
‘I have to thank my bosses at Sky News for trusting me to tell an important story and my colleagues for their relentless efforts over the last year.’
Layla said:
‘I’m delighted to win a 30 To Watch award alongside some brilliantly talented people. Their past winners include some of the best in the business so to make their list is really special.’
The prestigious awards, now in their tenth year, look for upcoming young talent in the news industry.
Judges are selected from a range of senior journalists from across the UK broadcast and print news media.
Previous winners from the Trust community include Ashni Lakhani (2021 mentee and 2019 winner); Kumba Kpakima (2020 mentee and 2019 winner); Sophia Smith Galer (2020 mentee and winner); Symeon Brown (2015 mentee and 2018 winner); and Lewis Goodall (2014 mentee and 2018 winner).
