The John Schofield Trust’s 12-month mentoring programme will open for new applicants on 1 September 2022.
The Trust is encouraging applications from aspiring, apprentice and early-career journalists from marginalised and disadvantaged backgrounds who would like to gain valuable career advice and support from experienced professionals. As well as a year’s support from a dedicated mentor, successful applicants will also be offered access to exclusive masterclasses covering a range of journalism-relevant topics; networking opportunities; and life-long membership of our Fellowship, a place to turn to for inspiration, encouragement, support and professional development.
Just a few reflections from last year’s Fellows:
“I feel better informed about how to navigate the next steps of my career and have an industry leader in my corner.”
“I know now that if I need help I always have someone to go to. That in itself is invaluable.”
“The mentoring has been excellent for both my confidence and my mental health.”
“My mentor has faced similar challenges to me and is in a good place to offer considered and accurate advice.”
It’s an exciting year for the Trust which is expanding to support aspiring and early-career journalists in the Republic of Ireland for the first time, as well as continuing the existing programmes in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. 2023, therefore, looks set to be bigger and better than ever before in the campaign for newsroom diversity.
The Trust is a powerful force for positive change in the news industry. Our Fellows are more diverse and representative of UK society than the industry they are entering, or in which they work. In every respect they represent the future of the news media. Read more about the difference we make here.
