2021 Fellow Nabihah Parkar has launched an original documentary series spotlighting the talent of British Muslim women from a range of careers

The first episode of ‘An-nisa,’ hosted on YouTube, focused on British Sudanese comedian Ola Labib. Nabihah has since profiled pitmaster Mursal Saiq and rugby player Zainab Alema. All episodes are researched, produced, filmed and edited by Nabihah herself.

Nabihah reports that since launching, the series has had 50,000 views across social media. She said, “I embarked on this project as a creative outlet […] it’s truly heartwarming to see how well it’s been received.”

2024 Fellow Will Hollis has covered the 81st anniversary of the Dambusters WWII mission for his first ever overseas deployment

Current Fellow Will covered the story for GB News, where he is East Midlands reporter. He told us, “I covered the 81st anniversary of the famous Dambusters Second World War mission from Castricum aan Zee in Netherlands. The beach was the site where one Lancaster aircrew instrumental to the raids’ success were killed. I followed a crew of RAF cyclists from the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincolnshire to the Dutch memorial site. I developed the story idea, created a costed plan, and pitched to my newsdesk who in turn accepted and supported the deployment.”

Will thanked his Senior Fellow Mark Wray who is currently mentoring him, “the support from my John Schofield Trust mentor, Mark Wray, has helped me develop confidence to push for a higher standard of achievement in my career which is clearly garnering results.”

Kate Plummer 2024 Early Career Fellow U.S. Politics and National Affairs Reporter at Newsweek

2024 Fellow Kate Plummer has been promoted at Newsweek to Investigative Reporter 

Kate told us, “As moving into this area of journalism was one of my key goals when joining the scheme, I am very excited to get started.”

Kate is currently being mentored by Gabriel Pogrund of the Sunday Times, and before her promotion was U.S. Politics and National Affairs Reporter at Newsweek.

2022 Fellow and current Senior Fellow Amar Mehta has become an ambassador for NCTJ

Amar was recently awarded MHP Group’s ’30under30 to watch’ in the sports category. He has since been appointed as an ambassador for the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) and will be working closely with the charity going forward. Still at Sky Sports News, Amar’s job title has recently changed from Assistant News Editor to Deputy News Editor.

Amar mentors an aspiring sports journalist as part of our student programme.

2019 Fellow Sophia Smith Galer has a new book on the way

Announcing a new book focused on ‘the death of languages’ on social media, Sophia said, “I am over the moon to share I am writing my second book, How To Kill A Language – about linguicide and language loss. […] I am very excited to be working with William Collins Books again, who published my first book Losing It.”
