Miriam Walker-Khan (2023): new role is Sky Sports first

Miriam Walker-Khan, a Fellow on this year’s early-career mentoring scheme, has taken on a new role as Sky Sports News’ first ever diversity and inclusion reporter.

She makes the move from BBC Sport, where she worked as a senior reporter for younger audiences and digital platforms, as well as reporting on Match of the Day, Football Focus, MOTDx and the Question of Sport podcast.

Miriam describes the new role and how she feels about the opportunity:

“I’m really excited to be Sky Sports News’ first ever Diversity and Inclusion reporter.

I’ve just left BBC Sport after almost six years, and it felt like I was unofficially doing the role there. It’s a total honour to be telling the stories of communities and groups of people who are so often voiceless within the media. And it’s refreshing and exciting to be in a role that’s invested in the D&I space in sport. It feels really necessary but also exciting to see what stories we can tell, and how we can maybe even impact change on a bigger scale somewhere down the line.

My role is off-diary and working on a lot of long-form projects within a Bespoke Content team who are all brilliant. It’s lovely to be working with people who just get it!”
