Mentee Finbarr reports on relations between LGBTQ community and the police in the US

Mentee Finbarr Toesland reports for NBCnews.com this month on the changing relationship between police forces and the LGBTQ+ community in the US.

The historically fraught relationship between law enforcement and the LGBTQ+ community has led to a growing number of police departments across the US introducing LGBTQ+ awareness and cultural competency training for their officers.

Finbarr says: ‘I interviewed a dozen people who have experience of the complex relationship between police and the LGBTQ+ community – including serving police officers, alleged victims of police brutality, legal experts and LGBTQ+ awareness trainers – for this investigation.’

‘After several months working on this piece, it’s great to see it published!’
