Do you share a passion for diversity in newsrooms and supporting future generations of journalists? 

The John Schofield Trust is a highly-respected charity nurturing talented journalists from across the sector. We are seeking a dedicated treasurer to join our board of trustees as our current treasurer reaches the end of her six-year term.

We are looking for:

The treasurer is a critical role for the charity, with oversight over our financial administration and with some key operational functions. The treasurer works in line with best practice, in compliance with our governing document and within legal requirements. The treasurer reports to the board of trustees at regular intervals on our state of financial health and prepares documents for the finance committee to ensure the Trust uses its resources effectively to achieve our aims.

As a trustee, you will:

  • Play a vital role in shaping the Trust’s future strategy and growth.
  • Provide expert guidance and support the Trust’s staff and beneficiaries.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and rewarding board environment.

Frequently asked questions

Q: When would the role start?
A: Would start January 2025, with some handover beforehand.

Q: Can people who are already trustees elsewhere apply?
A: Yes

Q: Can journalists apply?
A: Of course – although experience as a journalist is not essential.

Q: How many meetings would I be expected to attend each year?
A: At least four meetings a year, with some activity outside of that.

Q: How much are the roles paid?
A: The roles are voluntary, though we would cover any expenses incurred on trustee business.

Q: I am based outside of the UK, can I still apply?
A: We are only looking for trustees who are based in the UK or Ireland.
