Mahima Abedin (2023) secures place on BBC Future Voices scheme

2023 Student Fellow Mahima has secured her place on the scheme facilitated by BBC World Service Languages.

Mahima, a student at the University of Kent, told us “I’m itching to get started and really looking forward to taking another step towards reaching my goal. My mentor, Merlyn Thomas, was really helpful throughout the process and stood by me every step of the way. Whenever I needed some advice she was always happy to have a call and really believed in me. She was the first person I told and hearing her excitement and having her celebrate this achievement with me meant so much!”

Her mentor, Senior Fellow Merlyn Thomas, said: “Mentoring Mahima has been so rewarding. It’s so exciting knowing young journalists like Mahima are coming into the industry.”

Mahima will begin the six week journalism training scheme in May. It’s focused on budding journalists who speak or have a strong connection to a second language.
