2022 Fellow Ellis Palmer Babe, who has cerebral palsy, swapped the news cycle for a wheelchair handcycle on his recent tour of the east coast of Ireland.
Ellis’ reported back on his epic tour for the Irish Times, in a piece entitled ‘Access (almost) all areas on an east coast handcycle.’
In his story, Ellis made the case for improved accessibility of cycling lanes: “Councils and the Government can and should consult disabled people about how they experience getting around their communities,” he said; “It’s not necessarily about ripping out your infrastructure and rebuilding it from scratch, but thinking about how different groups of people with different perspectives might experience the same infrastructure.”
We look forward to seeing where Ellis’ adventures take him next!
