The applications are in – and 2023 will be our biggest year yet.

Applications for the 2023 apprentice and early-career journalist mentoring programme closed on Friday. Numbers applying have broken all Trust records: an increase of a whopping 32% on last year makes this the biggest year yet for the scheme. It also means the scheme has grown for the fifth year in a row.

The Trust is covering more countries than ever before this year, inviting applications from journalists across the UK, and from the Republic of Ireland for the first time.

We’ve also seen more employers represented than ever before, with candidates applying from a wider range of news organisations than in previous years.

David Stenhouse, JST CEO said “we are delighted to see so many people applying to the John Schofield Trust for mentoring and support at a time when journalists and journalism are under such pressure. It shows that the trust is unique and essential.”

The team will now read through each application and embark on the process of matching successful candidates with an appropriate mentor – a professional journalist with expertise in an area relevant to the candidate’s interests.

The new Fellows for 2023 will be announced in November. Subscribe and stay tuned to our social media for updates.
