Award-winning and highly respected sports journalist, Dave Evans, died on Christmas Day 2020 at the age of just 54. Tributes have poured in from his family, friends and colleagues who all enjoyed his company. Many praised his gift to pass on his vast experience to help those just starting out in the industry.
The Trust is grateful to Dave’s family who have kindly chosen the John Schofield Trust to receive donations in lieu of flowers for his funeral.
Anyone who knew Dave, or who admired his work, is invited to make a donation to the Trust as, writes Dave’s brother, ‘their aim is to assist aspiring early career and apprentice journalists to make their way in the field where Dave spent his whole working life’.

UPDATE: 17/05/21
We are very grateful to Dave’s employers Archant who, at the request of Dave’s family, donated Dave’s long service payment of £500 to the trust.
Michael Adkins, senior group editor, said: ‘During his time with Archant Dave became a valued member of the team, a good friend to many colleagues and an experienced sports journalist who nurtured many trainee sports reporters.
‘We are delighted to make this donation in honour of Dave’s long service, following a request from his family.
‘Dave would fully support the donation in support of the John Schofield Trust and the great work it does in supporting and mentoring aspiring journalists.’
