Vincent runs for the Trust

We’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on our senior Fellow, Vincent McAviney, a journalist whose journey with the John Schofield Trust has come full circle.

From being a mentee in 2013 to becoming a mentor this year and now taking on the London Marathon to raise funds for the Trust, Vincent is the very embodiment of what our community is all about: giving back, growing together and supporting the next generation of journalists.

“I was fortunate to be a mentee with the Trust in 2013 and experienced firsthand the impact of the programme,” Vincent shares. “This year, I have the privilege of mentoring a young journalist myself.”

For many young people looking to enter the world of journalism, the path can be daunting, especially for those from underrepresented backgrounds.

The John Schofield Trust exists to break down barriers, open up opportunities and our mentoring programme plays a central role in that mission. Vincent’s story highlights how early support can shape a career and spark a lasting dedication to lifting others up.

Now, with just weeks to go until the London Marathon, Vincent is swapping the newsroom for running shoes as he trains to take on the 26.2 mile challenge, in support of the Trust that helped with his career and Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a charity that has been working to prevent suicide since 2005.

We’re incredibly proud to have Vincent as part of our vibrant, growing community. His dedication and generosity remind us of the power of mentorship and the ripple effect it can have far beyond the newsroom.
